Athletics for the Challenged Program (Fall 2009) Athletics for the Challenged is designed to give students a chance to participate in a non-competitive, pressure free, athletic program. In order to meet the demands of student interest, monthly activities are planned at host schools to best suit the desires of our athletes. Each child is encouraged to achieve new goals and to actively participate on a team representing their school. Rocky Point is one of nine teams to participate across Suffolk County. The season continues throughout the entire school year, culminating with a year-end awards presentation. Good luck to all of our Athletes!! Welcome to the Rocky Point Special Education Department Website! This website is designed as a collection of resources to assist parents and teachers in understanding, identifying and effectively supporting students with special needs. Please feel free to write to Eileen F. Manitta, Director of Special Education, should you have any questions or would like to suggest resources to add to this website. The Rocky Point Union Free School District provides a free and appropriate public education to students with disabilities through age 21. The Committee on Special Education (CSE), a multi-disciplinary team, evaluates each student individually. It is the CSE's responsibility to develop an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) if the student is found to be disabled and eligible for special education services. A continuum of services are available to our students with disabilities. Services may include related services, integrated classes, resource room, and/or self-contained classes. For more information on District policies, practices and procedures for assuring appropriate educational services and due process in evaluation and placement of students with disabilities, please see 2007-2009 Rocky Point UFSD Special Education District Plan and Program Descriptions. Or call the Special Education Office at (631) 849-7583.
